A Columbus-based DJ and MC who fell for this work from two directions at once — the sound engineering side and the human side — and spent a career learning to put them together.
Two degrees, one obsession: the room.
I studied music technology as an undergrad — the signal chain, the mix, the way a space actually sounds when it's full of people. Then I went back for a master's in human resources, which sounds like a detour until you've watched a dance floor. Both degrees point at the same thing: understanding people and giving a room what it needs.
I got my start on the production side — audio, video, and photography under my own shingle, Devenny Productions — before weddings and events became the heart of the work. Hundreds of celebrations later, and a career that's included plenty of time behind the decks with seasoned local event teams, the thrill is still exactly the same.
I'm also a guitarist and songwriter, and it shows in how I mix. I hear transitions, energy, and dynamics the way a player does — where to build, where to breathe, and when to drop the one song that turns a polite crowd into a packed floor. Couples tell me the night just flowed. That's not luck; it's phrasing.
